Training

AVTA takes into account your specific learning style when helping you to learn how to use assistive technology and computer applications. Training is done one-on-one on your own system in short 2-3 hour sessions that fit into your school or work schedule. We strive to make the training relevant to you by identifying specific tasks that are vital for you and ensuring that you can use your computer and assistive technology to do those tasks. Reference materials will be custom created for you using a terminology and format that is easy for you to use.

AVTA offers the following training and technical support:

Voice Recognition Training and Customization

*Level 1:
We will install Dragon Naturally Speaking and configure your system for optimal speech recognition. During the training process your speech files will be created and a vocabulary built to match your personal writing and document style. You will learn the basics of dictation and controlling your Windows environment using voice commands. By the end of the training you will be able to dictate into a word processor and send an email using only voice commands.
Time: 9 hours
* Level 2:
Integrating voice recognition into your everyday work processes is critical to ensure that it is an effective accommodation. You will learn how to use voice commands to control your specific, specialized work applications.
Time: 6 - 12 hours
*Customization:
Our Professional Engineer and Certified Assistive Technology Specialist will create custom speech commands to automate your job tasks. Custom scripts will be created to make an otherwise inaccessible software application respond to your voice commands.
*Follow-Up:
We provide follow-up sessions after the initial training period to answer any questions or technical issues that may have come up once you have gained some dictation experience.
