Assistive Technology Compatibility Testing and Customization

Ergonomics Audit and Worksite Evaluation

Do some employees complain of discomfort or pain? Are some employees less productive than might be expected of them? Is absenteeism a problem? AVTA’s ergonomic and workplace accommodation consultant will conduct worksite accessibility and ergonomics audits to ensure maximum productivity is achieved without jeopardizing employee health and well-being. Educating and counseling employees about body mechanics, posture, as well as principles of work simplification will assist in the prevention of injuries and job stress.

Individual Job Accommodation Assessment

Through discussions with our clients, we will analyze critical job tasks, performance criteria, as well as physical layout, personal supports, equipment and interpersonal relations and attitudes in order to determine how to best meet individual needs.

Successful accommodation outcomes result from a timely and well integrated process involving training on assistive technology, customizing hardware and software solutions to suit specific job tasks and integrating these new processes into the natural work flow of the client.

Website Accessibility Audit

Is your intranet accessible to employees using assistive technology? Is your company’s public website accessible to customers using assistive technology?

AVTA can determine if your site is accessible. We can assist you to ensure that all net-new websites are accessible and meet WCAG 2 guidelines; test your existing websites; and develop accessibility remediation plans for any sites not in compliance with W3C WCAG standards.

Job Accommodation Policy and Process Consultation

Job accommodation is a process that involves the employee, manager, co-workers, human resources and any number of internal stakeholders. Add to that the confusion of what to buy, who to buy it from and how to use it and the accommodation process can become frustrating, lengthy and costly. AVTA has worked with organizations in the past to assist them in developing accommodation processes that take into account all stakeholders, while also streamlining costs and timeframes. As a member of the AODA Employment Accessibility Standards development committee, we can offer you unique insight into meeting your obligations to employees with disabilities.

Job Matching and Job Analysis

During the recruitment process, AVTA can analyze given positions within your organization to determine general accommodations to help persons with disabilities meet specific and general job demands. Once a position is secured, AVTA can assist in determining the types of accommodations a candidate might require and ensure that those accommodations are implemented in a timely and effective manner.

Return to Work Plans

AVTA will work with businesses, Insurance companies and Rehabilitation Professionals to help bring injured employees back to work and ensure appropriate accommodations are in place to make the return to work a success.

Training

Once you have decided on your technical accommodations AVTA will train you, your employee or client on how to use the new software for school or work. AVTA takes into account your specific learning styles when teaching you to use assistive technology and computer applications. Training is done on a one-on-one basis, using your personal system, in short 2 to 3 hour sessions. We strive to make the training relevant to you by identifying specific tasks that are vital to your work, while ensuring you can use your computer and assistive technology to accomplish those tasks. Reference materials will be custom created for you using an accessible terminology and format.
